1. YH-GL-1

YH-GL-1 is a synthetic lithium magnesium silicate. It is insoluble in water but swells to give clear and colorless colloidal dispersions. At concentrations of 2% or greater in water, highly thixotropic gels can be produced.

1.1. Recommended use

YH-GL-1 is used for imparting a shear sensitive structure to a wide range of waterborne systems. These include building and industrial coatings, cleaners, ceramic glazes agrochemical, oilfield and horticultural products.

1.3. Incorporation and processing instructions

Add the YH-GL-1 powder to water with rapid stirring; continue mixing 20 minutes at high speed. Place the mixture for more than 15 hours before use.


2. YH-GL-1

YH-GL-2 is a synthetic lithium magnesium silicate modified with dispersing agent. It is insoluble in water but swells to give clear and colorless colloidal dispersions known as sols. At concentrations of 25% in water, these will remain free flowing. On addition of small quantities of electrolyte, or on addition to formulations containing resins, surfactants or pigments, highly thixotropic gels are formed rapidly.

2.1. Recommended use

YH-GL-2 is used for imparting a shear sensitive structure to a wide range of waterborne systems. These include building and industrial coatings, cleaners, ceramic glazes agrochemical, oilfield and horticultural products.

2.3. Incorporation and processing instructions

To prepare a dispersion of YH-GL-2 at 20-25% solids content in water: Add the YH-GL-2 powder to water with rapid stirring; continue mixing at high speed. After a few minutes the viscosity of the pre-mix will begin to rise rapidly. At this time, turn off the stirrer and leave the dispersion to age for up to one hour. During this period of time the viscosity of the mixture will begin to fall. Turn on the stirrer and continue mixing until the pre-mix is a smooth homogenous liquid.


2.4.Storage and transportation

YH-GL-2 is hygroscopic and should be stored under dry conditions.
